The 3rd International Rural Tourism and Agrotourism Fair AGROTRAVEL 2011 was held 15-17th April 2011 on the premises of Kielce Trade Fairs
International Rural Tourism and Agrotourism Fair AGROTRAVEL was held, already for the third time, 15-17 April 2011 in Kielce. The organizers of the event were: Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development with Ministry of Sport and Tourism of the Republic of Poland, Marshal’s Office of the Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship, Kielce Trade Fairs, Polish Tourism Organisation, and Regional Tourism Organisation of Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship
Motivation to continue the venture of AGROTRAVEL originated in the growing interest of rural tourism among potential entrepreneurs and tourists. The new image of rural areas was being introduced, in which they were perceived not only in terms of labor, but also in terms of rest, recovery and refuge from fast-paced city life. This year’s fair was focused on rural tourism product, presentation of domestic and foreign achievements as well as discussion on challenges ahead. Strengthening of rural tourism product brands, creation of information systems on brand products as well as the need of its development by means of modern promotion tools were the intended topics of discussion.
The fair was a place for presentation and promotion of regions, countries, offers and highlights of rural tourism as well as meeting point for potential partners (in brand creation process, networking, product development and commercialization) representing both tourism industry and rural areas development experts. Therefore, we intended to raise interest in the domestic and regional rural tourism products presented by Local Activity Groups, associations and agrotourism unions, tourism organizations (Polish local and regional organizations) among the subjects specializing in tourism product sale as well as individual customers.
AGROTRAVEL presented exhibitors with an outstanding opportunity to gain new customers, introduce products and services on the market, create and strengthen brands as well as examine the customers’ needs. For visitors AGROTRAVEL was not only a way of getting in touch with tourism offer and finding the best holiday destination, but also an entertaining social experience. Exuberant program of the event presented Polish culture and heritage, arts and crafts, folk art, daily routine, customs and habits of the countryside as well as regional and local cuisine.
The program of the fair included:
• Presentation of rural tourism offer of domestic and foreign exhibitors
• Regional inns with delicacies of particular regions
• Arts and crafts fair with the full offer of regional folk art
• The Folk Culture Scene
• Contests and competitions for both exhibitors and visitors
The international conference “Rural tourist product – experiences and challenges” was the crucial part of the event. It summarised the experiment which had lasted 20 years in the Polish rural areas by evaluating the economic effectiveness of the rural tourism for the rural areas development as well as by indicating the new approach based on professional customer service, creation and networking of products and effective promotion.
This year’s fair was attended by over 141 domestic and foreign exhibitors and the stands were visited by over 20 thousand visitors. The event was widely covered by the media.
The fair was coordinated by Regional Tourism Organization of Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship.
